About Us

Richcoast Camp El Nido began its journey in 2019 as Bice Camp El Nido. BICE stands for Brilliant Idea of Camping and Excursion—a vision rooted in living closer to nature and sharing authentic island experiences.

Founded by Tommy Almonte, the camp started when he left a corporate career to build a simple island camp on Darocotan Island, El Nido. With the help of friends, Bice Camp opened in June 2019. A bahay kubo template was built on his first day in the island, and within one month, the 10-kubo camp was built by hand.

The early days were promising—until the first quarter of 2020, when the global pandemic forced operations to stop. Tommy and a small group of guests were locked down on the island as tourism paused. The camp remained closed until 2023, when it reopened with the same backpacker camping spirit that defined its beginnings.

In 2025, we took a major step forward by building our own island-hopping boat, Bice 5. Later that year, we rebranded as Richcoast Camp El Nido—
Rich in nature. Rich in culture.
We also added a larger expedition vessel called Winterspring-1 for multi-day journeys between El Nido and Coron.
